I have been working with Timefold in Python for a while and wrote a setup manual for a Timefold project. When testing this setup manual on another device we ran into a problem. It doesn't seem to depend on my particular project as the same thing happens when trying to run a Python quickstart from the docs. It appears that execution terminates when Timefold decorators such as @planning_entity and @planning_solution are encountered. When it reads the domain.py and encounters such a decorator it just takes 1-2 seconds before terminating with no output. Running python with -v does give a lot of output, but nothing which looks suspicious (the last line in this case is import 'gc' # <class '_frozen_importlib.BuiltinImporter'>). Note that the Timefold imports themselves don't give any issues. Also, we use Python 3.12.10, jdk 24 and have set the JAVA_HOME environment variable correctly. Any ideas on what the cause might be would be greatly appreciated! Continue reading...
