    I'm working in small laboratory. The DNS is managed by our Institute, but we have an access to efficientIP web interface and so we could change the names of our computers.

    But we want to automating it and so I created a little python script to change the name for a given IP using SOLIDserverRest library.

    It almost works. I could update an IP hostname, it become active (nslookup confirms changes in both way (IP->DNS, DNS->IP), but if I look in efficientIP web interface for this IP in the Advanced Properties tab in DNS section I still see "Shortname" which point to old hostname.

    Here is the code that change the IP hostname :

    #First I get ip_id corresponding to my IP object then
    update_params = {
    "ip_id": ip_id,
    "ip_name": fqdn,
    }
    update_answer = sds_con.query("ip_address_update", update_params)

    As I said, it works, but didn't change shortname in DNS section. Doing some googling and chat-bots I tried :

    1. there was an idea that I need also do "dns_rr_update". But it didn't change anything and even without doing "dns_rr_update", if I do "dns_rr_info" for my IP all information point to the new hostname.

    2. Some of chat-bot proposed to see "rr_type: PTR" object, but it didn't work. Searching for rr_type:"PTR" give me nothing.

    I'd like to understand for what this "shortname" in DNS properties corresponding ? And how I could change it ?

    I suppose that I do something wrong as changing via web interface change everything : IPAM and DNS.
