[Python] Pyenv on Raspberry pi. Why are some commands eg install not working? [closed]

I have installed pyenv version 2.6.2 as per github instructions. Also done some troubleshooting (by adding entries to .bashrc and .profile) based on comments on stack overflow. Pyenv commands such as: version, shell, which and local elicit helpful responses. Install does not. How can this be resolved?
