I have tried multiple homebrew reinstalls of vim but have not been able to get python3 support which is needed for a vim plugin (ultisnips).

No matter what I have tried: vim --version | grep python always returns -python and -python3. My system is a MacBook M1 Pro running sequoia 15.5.

Does anyone have a recipe for this, or should I try macports, or, ...?

    brew reinstall python3
    brew remove vim
    brew cleanup
    brew install vim

I tried multiple variations of the above, none of which got python3 support. When I attempt to run vim with the ultisnips packaged loaded, any attempt in vim insert mode immediately fails with a ultisnip error pointing to illegal python command. Moving ~/.vmrc to /.vmrc.bak and then attempting vi foo and insert mode (thus removing the vim plugin load) works just fine.

    Here is the error:

Error detected while processing InsertCharPre Autocommands for "*"..script /User
    s/glen/.vim/plugged/ultisnips/autoload/UltiSnips.vim:
    line 10:
E319: Sorry, the command is not available in this version: py3 import vim
