I'm new to Flask and trying to build a simple app that lists user profiles. I have added some sample data to my SQLite database, and I can see the records using DB Browser for SQLite. However, when I try to query the users in my route and pass them to a template, I get an empty list. Here's my code: # models.py from flask_sqlalchemy import SQLAlchemy db = SQLAlchemy() class User(db.Model): id = db.Column(db.Integer, primary_key=True) name = db.Column(db.String(100), nullable=False) email = db.Column(db.String(120), unique=True, nullable=False) def __repr__(self): return f'<User {self.name}>' # app.py from flask import Flask, render_template from models import db, User app = Flask(__name__) app.config['SQLALCHEMY_DATABASE_URI'] = 'sqlite:///users.db' db.init_app(app) @app.route('/users') def list_users(): users = User.query.all() return render_template('users.html', users=users)
User List

All Users

{% for user in users %}
{{ user.name }} - {{ user.email }}
{% endfor %}
I expected to see a list of users displayed, but I'm just getting an empty bullet list. I’ve checked the database and the data is definitely there. I’ve already verified that the table contains data by inspecting it with DB Browser for SQLite. However, when I run User.query.all() in the Flask shell, it still returns an empty list. I also double-checked that the users.db file is in the correct location. Despite these checks, the /users page continues to render without showing any user entries. What I want is for the page to display a list of all users stored in the database. Continue reading...
