I am fairly new to creating batch scripts but have started using them to help run and maintain various game servers for an old Half-Life mod called Sven Co-op. It drastically simplified the process, especially since that game is prone to crashing. There is an angelscript plugin that allows you to listen to music and online radio within the game itself using the in-game microphone system. In order for this to work it requires the game to run a metamod .dll (a program which launches alongside the game's .dll file) and a python script (radio_client.py). I have looked at various old posts on how to set this up but I run into a particular problem: attempting to employ a restart or taskkill command seems to be more complicated than you would expect because it is not launching the python script within python but within command prompt and I am using command prompt for several tasks already. As far as my understanding goes, I would have to force close the command prompt .exe to do what I am trying to do, which is to have a script that closes and opens radio_client.py on a timer. Here is the script I am attempting to use to restart the program. This script works to open it initially within command prompt. I am trying to find a way to close it and reopen it on a timer. Ideally this would be on a 12 hour timeframe (because the radio program breaks after an unspecified duration of time and needs reset). Having to manually close and reopen this task has made it frustrating to use. :restart radio_client.py echo "restarting radio" timeout /t 5 goto restart Continue reading...
