I have a 3D scan of teeth and a 3D Face model (generated from an image), and I would like a method to automatically align the 3D Face (mainly scale and position) such that it fits well over the 3D Teeth scan. Currently this is being done manually by scaling and positioning the image (from which the 3D Face is generated) over the 3D Teeth scan such that the teeth line up well with each other. After which the 3D Face model can then be scaled and positioned so that it aligns with the image and thus the teeth scan. However this is a time consuming task so I would like to automate this in some way. Can't post images sadly From my research, I've found that this maybe can be doing by extracting facial features from the image and aligning it to the mesh. But this seems like a convoluted and overly complex solution when what I want to do boils down to scaling a face mesh to an appropriate relative size to the teeth (and positioning). My aim is to reduce the amount of work that needs to be done to reach the final product. Ideally I would want to reach the final product without human intervention. Maybe I could use some sort of facial landmark detection to determine the location of the mouth in the image and just translate the teeth scan to the centre of the mouth? Continue reading...
