Populating a p-tree with checkboxes renders them unselectable

I have a frontend Angular app that implements a p-tree with a selectionMode of "checkbox"

<p-tree [value]="myNodes" selectionMode="checkbox">
</p-tree>


Where "myNodes" is an array of TreeNodes within my ts file:

myNodes: TreeNode[];


I don't have any trouble populating the tree - and the checkboxes show up fine and don't appear to be disabled.

However it is impossible to actually check the checkboxes. If you hover over them they change color to black - but they never actually get selected no matter how many times you click them.

They worked fine when I was using a Java 8 build; I've had to upgrade to Java 17 and this seems to have rendered the checkboxes useless.

Any suggestions?
