I have an ignite grid and I want to not navigate to a record if it is currently visible

In my grid I have a column of boolean checkboxes. I also have code that navigates to the given row when selected. That action moves the viewport so the selected row is at the top of the visible part of the grid.

That works fine. However, if I want to check the checkbox, I have to click once, wait for it to move, then move the cursor to the checkbox to click the checkbox. If I click too quickly, like a double-click, the selected row moves to the top, but I end up clicking the checkbox of the row now in the position where the original row was.

My question is there a way not to navigate the selected row if it is already visible in the viewport of the grid?
