Environment Variables when deploying to Angular 17+ SSR to Firebase [duplicate]

I was investigating how to deploy Angular 19 in SSR Mode to Firebase and stumbled upon this previous question: How to deploy Angular 17 ssr mode on firebase

In that question @Sebastián Rojas referenced https://firebase.google.com/codelabs/firebase-web#0

In that example, the src/environment/environment.ts which includes placeholder firebase initialization is pushed to git, but I thought that was taboo.

Question is, is it still taboo if it's a private repo? and if so, what is the alternative way to handle environment variables when using Firebase App Hosting & Angular v17+ SSR?
