In my angular 19 app, I am trying to create an MDI interface where the user has menus in a left hand side navigation bar, then when they click to launch, in the main content area of the page there is a tab control, and that menu link would launch the component as a new tab. When the user clicks a menu, I am using router.navigateByUrl to launch a new url. In the main content area component where I have my tab control I have my router outlet. I am hooked into onRouterOutletActivate and in there I detach the newly generated component from the top level of the page and I reinsert as a new tab. Everything works great so far (history is another issue I'm not worried about right now). My problem is that if the user clicks a left hand nav menu twice in a row, the 2nd one is ignored. I even tried adding a random number as a query arg to the url. I'd like to allow the user to open multiple tabs for the same feature, for example, they might be looking at one record, but now need to go search for another record of the same type. When the user clicks the menu a 2nd time, I can see 'some' router events in the console, but it nevers creates a new component. Somewhere something is stepping in and telling it not to continue. I googled "angular can't launch route twice" and tried those suggestions like RouteReuseStrategy, replaceUrl, location, parameter, etc, but nothing works and lets me launch twice in a row. If the user clicks a different menu, then they can launch the 1st one again. So Menu1, Menu1 fails to launch Menu1 the 2nd time, but Menu1, Menu2, Menu1 does open a third tab with a new Menu1 component. What am I missing? Continue reading...
